RELAY FOR LIFE

In third grade my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. From that day on, my family has consistently participated in events for Relay for Life. I am thankful every day that my mother is such a strong woman and role model and has been able to see me follow through with my many passions and life goals.

MACOA 24TH ANNUAL CULINARY CAPER

Last year I participated in the 24th annual culinary caper, held at the Alabama Activity Center in Montgomery. For the event, I worked as a volunteer serving guests. The event involved a silent auction followed by lunch that had been provided as a donation by local restaurants in the Montgomery Area. The event proceeds benefited the Montgomery Area Council on Aging (MACOA) and Meals on Wheels.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

During my years before Auburn, I participated on multiple occasions with assisting the staff and crew of our local Special Olympics. During my volunteer experience with hosting the event for special needs children, I learned what joy and warmth that this program can bring to participants and volunteers alike.

2K FOR TUBERCULOSIS

In my senior year of high school, I helped to organize, advertise, and participate in a 2k marathon for Tuberculosis with my Chilton County High School's Student Government Association.

HATLEY'S SENIOR HOME

During the holiday seasons, I volunteered with Chilton County's High School's SADD group (Students Against Destructive Decisions) to visit the local senior home (Hatley's) to entertain and connect with its tenants through gifts and intentional, meaningful communication.

HUMANE SHELTERS

On many occasions, I volunteered with the local Humane Society in Clanton, Alabama. This facility was extremely underfunded and needed community volunteers often, and so I was able to contribute where help was most needed.

INTERESTS

SUSTAINABILITY

I have always had a strong interest and passion about the environment. After taking the introductory course to sustainability here at Auburn, I became fascinated with following the many developments and research on the many areas related. In this course I also learned about the growing demand by the public for more businesses making a change in their practices. I believe it will be to my benefit, and my surrounding community, that I remain aware of this topic and try to find ways to make a positive changes, no mater the size of the impact.

STR

During this most recent semester my Stratgic Hospitality and Senior Lecture Series course I learned in depth about the important role Smith Travel Research (STR) plays in the daily routines of hotels around the world. In my Strategic Hospitality course a large section of our studies has been preping to obtain our Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA). As luck would have it, I was foutunate to hear STR's President and CEO, Mrs. Amanda Hite, speak to my Senior Lecture Series about the ways aleader and manger are different and how we can be successful at both.

FORBES TRAVEL GUIDE

My interests in Forbes Travel Guide was also sparked after attending a guest speaker for my Senior Lecture Series Course. This speaker was no other than their own Executive Vice President for Partner Affairs, Mr. Peter Kressaty. His presentations was memorable for many reasons, but the most intriguing was the difference in importance of service vs. facility over the years, in relation to the way they rate hotels. Since then, I have made it a point to stay updated in their work.
